The vibratory plate compactor may comprise a base plate configured to vibrate and compact a work surface, and an upper yoke having at least one leg disposed above and facing the base plate. The vibratory plate compactor may further comprise an impact wear plate affixed to the bottom surface of the at least one leg. The impact wear plate may be unattached to the base plate, and may be at least partially formed from a non-metallic material.
