Disclosed is an oil composition wherein the oil contains measurable amounts of peroxide resulting from peroxidation, and also includes an effective amount of a peroxide-reducing phosphorous compound, preferably an alkyl/aryl substituted phosphite compound or phosphinic acid (H.sub.3PO.sub.2) and its derivatives.
