Abstract
Disclosed are oxynitride phosphor compositions having the formula (RE.sub.1-xCe.sub.x).sub.3Al.sub.a-y-z-wSi.sub.yGa.sub.zSc.sub.wO.sub.12--yN.sub.y, where RE is at least one of Lu, Gd, Y, and Tb, 0.001.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.10, 0.ltoreq.w.ltoreq.2, 0.001.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.0.50, 0.ltoreq.z.ltoreq.4.999, and 4.5.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.5.0. When combined with radiation from a blue or UV LED, these phosphors can provide light sources with good color quality having high CRI over a large color temperature range. Also disclosed are blends of the above oxynitride phosphors and additional phosphors.
