Abstract
Guide bar drive in a knitting machine and method of driving guide bar. The drive includes a linear motor composed of a stator and a rotor, in which the linear motor is greater in height than width. The stator has a length in a longitudinal direction and includes at least one narrow side, and the rotor is structured and arranged in the stator for translational movement in the longitudinal direction. A guide rod is positioned adjacent the at least one narrow side and extending in the longitudinal direction to support the rotor.
