Abstract
The invention relates to new crystalline forms I and II of (4R-cis)-6-[2-[3-phenyl-4-(phenyl-carbamoyl)-2-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-5-(1-methyl-ethyl)-pyrrol-1-yl]-ethyl]-2,2-dimethyl-[1,3]dioxane-4-yl-acetic acid-tertiary butyl ester of the Formula (I) and a process for the preparation thereof. The new polymorphs of the present invention are useful pharmaceutical intermediates which can be used in the preparation of the hydroxymethyl-glutaryl coenzyme (HMG-COA) reducing enzyme inhibitor having the INN (International Non-proprietory Name) atorvastatin ##STR00001##
