Abstract
A process is provided for the preparation of mandelic acid derivatives. The process comprises the steps of: (a) stereoselectively cyanating a compound of Formula (2) to yield the corresponding cyanohydrin; ##STR1## (b) hydrolyzing the product of step (a) to the corresponding compound of Formula (1). ##STR2##
