Abstract
A process for preparing polyamides comprises polymerizing starting monomers or starting oligomers in the presence of at least one compound of the formula (I) ##STR1## where R is a functional group R.sup.8 which bears 1-4 identical or different amide-forming groups R.sup.7, R.sup.1 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl or OR.sup.6, where R.sup.6 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, cycloalkyl or benzyl, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, n is a natural number greater than 1, and the piperidine derivatives attached to R are identical or different with regard to the substituents, meaning R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5. The polyamides are useful for preparing filaments, fibers, films, sheetlike structures and moldings.
