Abstract

Methylene dithiepane silanes according to Formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon radical with 1 to 10 carbon atoms, which can be interrupted by one or more oxygen and/or sulphur atoms and can contain one or more ester, carbonyl, amide and/or urethane groups, or is an aromatic or heteroaromatic hydrocarbon radical with 6 to 18 carbon atoms, the hydrocarbon radicals being able to be substituted or unsubstituted; R.sup.2 has one of the meanings given for R.sup.1 or is absent; R.sup.3 has one of the meanings given for R.sup.1 or is absent; R.sup.4 is equal to --(CHR.sup.6).sub.n --, --Y--CO--NH--(CHR.sup.6).sub.n --, --Y--CO--NH--R.sup.5 --, --(CHR.sup.6).sub.n --S--R.sup.5 --, --S--R.sup.5 --, --CO--O--R.sup.5 -- or is absent, with n being equal to 1 to 4, R.sup.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl or C.sub.6 to C.sub.10 aryl, R.sup.5 has one of the meanings given for R.sup.1 and Y stands for an O or S atom or is absent; with R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 being able to be substituted or unsubstituted; X is a hydrolyzable group; a, b, c and x each independently of each other being 1, 2 or 3; and the sum of a+x=2 to 4. The silanes are particularly suitable for the preparation of dental materials.
