An infrared camouflage device has a surface structure having two groups of partial areas. Partial areas in the first group are directed downward and form an angle .alpha. of between 5.degree. and 45.degree. with vertical; and partial areas in the second group are directed upward and form an angle .beta. of between 50.degree. and 65.degree. with vertical; and .alpha.+.beta.<90.degree..
