Abstract
A substituted lithium cobalt composite oxide for use as a cathode active material in a lithium ion secondary battery, which has the general formula: Li.sub.x M.sub.y Co.sub.1-y O.sub.2 in which M represents at least one metallic element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Mo and; x is a numeral in the range of 0.8 to 1.2; and y is a numeral in the range of 0.001 to 0.10.
