Abstract
The present invention provides compounds of formula I, which are effective in absorbing ultraviolet radiation and can be used as sunscreen agents: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, or C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 alkyl in which at least one methylene group is replaced by oxygen; R.sup.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 alkyl in which at least one methylene group is replaced by oxygen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl carbonyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkynyl, or a group YS; R.sup.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or a group OR.sup.3 ; Y is a linker group; and S is a silane-, an oligosiloxane- or a polysiloxane-moiety.
