Abstract
This invention relates to substituted azetidin-2-ones and to pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds. Their use in medicine as inhibitors of cysteine proteases, particularly the cathepsins is also described. The invention includes a compound of formula (I), Y represents --C(O)-- or --S(O.sub.2)--; R represents an allyl (ie CH.sub.2.dbd.CHCH.sub.2 --) group or a radical. R.sub.1 represents --OCOR.sub.5, --OR.sub.5, --SR.sub.5, --S(O)R.sub.5, or --S(O).sub.2 R.sub.5 ; R.sub.2 represents a radical. R.sub.3 represents --OR.sub.5 or R.sub.5 ; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate or solvate thereof. ##STR1##
