Novel pharmaceutically/cosmetically-active (poly)thiaalkynoic compounds have the structural formula (I): R.sub.1 --Y--CH.sub.2 --C.ident.C--CH.sub.2 --S--CH.sub.2 --R.sub.2 (I) and are useful for the treatment of a wide variety of disease states, whether human or veterinary, for example inflammation disorders, as well as for the treatment of mammalian skin and hair conditions/disorders.
