Abstract

In the method of temporarily coloring and later decoloring hair a hair colorant is applied and allowed to remain on the hair for an exposure time of 10 to 45 minutes at 20 to 50.degree. C. and then rinsed out. Then at a later time, as desired, the hair is decolorized. The aqueous hair colorant contains 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of at least one dye compound of formula (IV), or a physiologically tolerated salt thereof; ##STR1## wherein n=0, 1 or 2 and R1 represents a C.sub.1 - to C.sub.4 -alkyl group, a hydroxyethyl group, a dihydroxypropyl group, a methoxyethyl group, a carboxyethyl group, a C.sub.1 - to C.sub.4 -sulfoalkyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl radical with halogen, sulfonic or carboxylic acid substituents; R2 represents a hydrogen, a methyl group, a carboxylic acid group, a carboxylic acid group esterified with a C.sub.1 -to C.sub.4 -alcohol or a carboxamido group; and Y represents an aromatic five-membered heterocyclic ring, which may or may not be benzoanellated.
