Abstract
3-Halogenomethylcephem compound of the formula (2) or its salt is obatined by deprotecting with phenol derivative a carboxylic acid protecting group at the 4-position of 7-amino-3-halogenomethylcephem compound of the formula (1) or its salt ##STR1## Further 3-thiomethylcephem compound of the formula (4) or its salt is prepared by reacting 3-halogenomethylcephem compound of the formula (2) or its salt with thiol compound or its salt of the formula (3) ##STR2## wherein X.sup.1, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and M are as defined in the specification.
