Abstract
A decoding apparatus and method for variable-length codes wherein data which consist of a plurality of variable-length codes are subjected to decode processing at a higher speed, comprising: a first logic circuit which delivers necessary-length data; decode means for decoding the necessary-length data in accordance with remaining data in a preceding cycle and then outputting the decoded data; and first control means connected to the decode means, for controlling the first logic circuit.
