Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the coating of electric steel strips with an oxide powder as annealing separator by the application of an aqueous solution which contains mainly MgO and also at least one additive, including a chlorine-containing compound. The characterizing feature of the invention is that the additive added to the aqueous solution is ammonium chloride (NH.sub.4 Cl or NH.sub.4 Cl.nH.sub.2 O).
