Abstract
The invention provides a method of producing .alpha.-tocopherol and .alpha.-tocopheryl esters. The method comprises using a biological system to produce farnesol or geranylgeraniol. Then, the farnesol or geranylgernaiol is chemically converted into .alpha.-tocopherol or an .alpha.-tocopheryl ester.
