Abstract
The present invention is directed to an N-phenyl-N'-phenylpropylpiperazine derivative represented by formula (1): ##STR1## (wherein R.sup.1 represents a lower alkyl group; R.sup.2 represents a lower alkoxy group; and R.sup.3 represents a cyano group, a carboxyl group, or an indolecarbonyl group); a medicament; and to a process for producing the derivative. The compound of the present invention is endowed with potent .alpha..sub.1 -adrenoceptor blocking activity, and thus is useful for the prevention or treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, myocardinal ischemia, arrhythmia, angina pectoris, and urinary obstruction and pollakiuria caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
