Abstract
A photothermographic image recording element has on a support a photosensitive layer containing a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, and a binder, wherein the organic silver salt has been formed in the presence of a tertiary alcohol. The photosensitive layer and/or a layer disposed adjacent thereto contains a nucleating agent. Alternatively, the photosensitive layer contains the silver halide which has been formed independent from the organic silver salt and added during preparation of a coating solution, and the main binder is a polymer latex having a Tg of -30.degree. C. to 40.degree. C. The element shows low fog, high contrast, and high sensitivity.
