An object of the present invention is to provide a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material which exhibits a high sensitivity and less residual color. A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material is described, comprising at least one compound represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein dye.sub.1 represents a methine dye; M.sub.1 represents a charge-balanced counter ion; m.sub.1 represents the number of M.sub.1 required to neutralize the charge of the molecule; q and p each represents an integer of 1 or more; R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group represented by R.sub.1a, R.sub.1b, R.sub.1c, or R.sub.1d : R.sub.1a : (Qa)rCON.sup.- SO.sub.2 Ra R.sub.1b : (Qb)sSO.sub.2 N.sup.- CORb R.sub.1c : (Qc)tCON.sup.- CORc R.sub.1d : (Qd)uSO.sub.2 N.sup.- SO.sub.2 Rd wherein Ra, Rb, Rc and Rd each represents an alkyl group, aryl group, heterocyclic group, alkoxyl group, aryloxy group, heterocyclyloxy group or amino group; Qa, Qb, Qc or Qd each represents a methylene group; and r, s, t and u each represents an integer of 1 or more; and R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group represented by the following general formula: R.sub.2a : A.sub.1 --SO.sub.3.sup.- R.sub.2b : A.sub.2 --X wherein A.sub.1 represents a connecting group containing at least one atom other than carbon atom; A.sub.2 represents a connecting group; and X represents a carboxyl group, sulfate group, phosphoric acid group or boric acid group.
