Abstract
The present invention concerns compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.6 each represent H or an organic group of up to 20 C atoms, or any pair of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 or R.sup.2 and R.sup.6 or R.sup.4 and R.sup.6 forms a cyclic group, and R.sup.5 SO.sub.2 is a cleavable protecting group in which R.sup.5 is an organic group of up to 20 C atoms. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of calanolide A and related antiviral compounds.
