Abstract
The present invention is directed to 3-benzoylindole derivatives represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## (wherein R.sup.1 represents a lower alkyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 5; each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or an optionally substituted phenyl group; and R.sup.4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or a benzyl group) and to a pharmaceutical containing the same. This compound is endowed with strong .alpha..sub.1 -adrenergic receptor blocking action and strong testosterone 5.alpha.-reductase inhibitory action, as well as high level of safety, and thus is useful as an excellent preventive or therapeutic drug for prostatic hypertrophy or accompanying urination disorder, alopecia, and acne.
