Abstract
The present invention relates to a magnetic recording medium comprising: as a support film a biaxially oriented polyester film comprising a polyester base film and a coating layer provided on the surface of the base film during the film forming process, and a magnetic layer comprising a magnetic substance dispersed in a resin binder, formed on the surface of said coating layer and having the thickness t (.mu.m) of said coating layer, the thickness tM (.mu.m) of said magnetic layer and the average center line roughness (sRa (nm)) of the surface of said magnetic layer, which satisfy the following formulae (1)-(4); 0.01.ltoreq.tM.ltoreq.2.0 (1) 0.05.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.1.39 (2) 0.1
