Abstract
A nozzle for use in continuous casting of steel simultaneously provides resistance to adhesion of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 inclusions, damage resistance, and spalling resistance. The refractory material of at least the interior surface of the nozzle and/or the portions to come into contact with molten steel is composed of amorphous silica and alumina and has a chemical composition of 5 to 40 percent by weight of SiO.sub.2, 60 to 95 percent by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, and 3 percent by weight or less of unavoidable impurities.
