An aminosterol compound according to the following formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is a member selected from the group of: ##STR2## R.sub.2 is H or OH; R.sub.3 is H or OH; R.sub.4 is H or OH; and R.sub.5 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 alkyl group. Preferably, R.sub.5 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl group, and a methyl group is particularly preferred.
