The invention relates to a method for coating a center roll used in a press of a paper machine and a center roll in the paper machine. The center roll in the paper machine is made of a ceramic or metal-ceramic basic material. At least one portion of the center roll is coated or soaked with a polymer coating in order to obtain a desired adhesion properties of the face of the center roll.
