A copolymer of an N-acylated glycosylamine and an amide having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.2 is a reducing sugar residue; R.sup.3 is H or CH.sub.3 ; x is an integer from 0 to about 20; and m is such that the molecular weight of the copolymer is from about 5 kDa to about 2000 kDa; an N-acryloyl- or methacryloyl-glycosylamine having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 is a reducing sugar residue; and R.sup.3 is H or CH.sub.3 ; and processes for its preparation.
