Aqueous cleaner compositions containing an alkali metal halogenite, for example, NcClO.sub.2 ; a stabilizable colorant; and a stabilizing amount of a stabilizer compound which is an ammonium hydroxide. The preferred embodiment further includes an anionic or anionic fluorocarbon surfactant.
