Abstract
A compound represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a lower alkyl group, a phenyl group or a benzyl group, or the two R.sup.1 groups together represent a group of the formula --CH.sub.2 --.sub.n in which n is an integer of 4 to 7; R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group; and Z represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted benzyl group; and a process for production thereof. The compounds of this invention are useful as intermediates for the synthesis of various biologically active substances, such as various antibiotics, particularly .beta.-lactam antibiotic derivatives, thienamycin, antibiotic PS-5 and their analogous substances.
