A heat sealable packaging film particularly suitable for producing a peelable seal by heat sealing on polystyrene. For this purpose, the composition of the film comprises: (a) 50 to 70% by weight of at least one ethylene polymer having a melt index of 0.5 to 7 g/10 min and selected from polyethylene having a density of from 0.910 to 0.925 g/cm.sup.3 and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing at most 7% by weight of vinyl acetate. (b) 20 to 30% by weight of at least one ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing 20 to 30% by weight of vinyl acetate and having a melt index of 0.5 to 7 g/10 min, and (c) 10 to 20% by weight of a styrene homopolymer having a melt index of 0.5 to 7 g/10 min. Also provided are packages including a container made from polystyrene and a covering film for the said container, which is made from the aforesaid film, laminated or not on other films.
