A flavan compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are as defined above, and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, which are useful as pharmaceutical agent having anti-convulsive, anti-ulcer, anti-arrythmic and diuretic activities.
