The artificial leather of the invention comprises a fibrous sheet material having on the surface thereof a coating formed of at least two layers of polyurethane elastomer with the elasticity modulus E of the layer of the polyurethane elastomer adjacent to the fibrous sheet being lower than the elasticity modulus E.sub.2, E.sub.3 . . . E.sub.p-1 of any of the following layer or layers, and at the same time being lower than the elasticity modulus E.sub.p of the finish layer according to the relation E.sub.1
