Abstract

A high-density power distribution system incorporates smart tap-off boxes (TOB) connected to an overhead busway and receiving therefrom a three-phase input power supply. The smart TOB resolves the three-phase input power into 3N single-phase output power circuits (where N is a positive integer) each connected to an overcurrent protection (OCP) device associated with an amperage level. A set of 3N conductors connected to the smart TOB carries the single-phase output power circuits to a rack power distribution unit (PDU, rPDU) in a server cabinet (e.g., via rack connection devices connecting the conductors to the rPDU), the rPDU including a linear array of output power sockets corresponding to the single-phase output power circuits.
