A processing unit is described for an inkjet printing device that is configured to predict the remaining duration until the presence of a servicing situation, on the basis of a chronological sequence of test print images from which the chronological development of the number of faulty nozzles emerges. The printing device can then be operated in an optimized manner under consideration of the predicted duration.
