Abstract
A user input component for an electronic device includes a haptic engine, a pressing surface, and a force sensor. The force sensor detects force applied by a user to the pressing surface and from this value and a spring constant of a supporting structure, an approximate displacement distance can be determined. The displacement distance can be used either directly or indirectly to select a drive current for a coil configured to provide haptic effect along the same direction of the user pressing force.
