Abstract
A method for saving an image acquired using single molecule localization microscopy is provided. The method includes acquiring an image of a sample including a plurality of single fluorescent molecules using single molecule localization microscopy; detecting a plurality of spots in the image, each spot representing one single fluorescent molecule of the plurality of single fluorescent molecules; determining one or more local regions of interest comprising the detected plurality of spots; determining metadata for defining each of the one or more local regions of interest; creating one or more image files, wherein each of the one or more image files includes image data of each of the one or more local regions of interest and the determined metadata defining each of the one or more local regions of interest, wherein the image data is a portion of the image; and saving the one or more image files.
