Abstract

This disclosure is directed to a nasal breathing monitoring system with a sensor (e.g., an ultrasonic transducer or microphone) to be placed on or near the outside of the user's nose and record a signal corresponding to the user's nasal breathing. The recorded breathing signal may be digitized and analyzed, e.g., based on its spectral characteristics, in order to determine one or more breathing characteristics of the user's breathing. The system may then adjust some system parameter based on the determined one or more breathing characteristics, e.g., a signal gain, a filter, feedback to the user, etc. The system may also use the one or more breathing characteristics to: recognize a particular user's identity, present a breathing exercise to a user, tailor particular user feedback, or compare the user's breathing characteristics to historical breathing data for the user and/or historical breathing data from other users obtained via an anonymized database.
