Abstract
A centrifugal separator has a rotary bowl designed to purify a liquid-solid mixture containing sedimenting and floating solids from the solids in the centrifugal field during batch operation. The bowl includes a separating chamber, a liquid discharge which, when the batch is being processed, continuously discharges the purified liquid phase from the separating chamber, and at least two solids-collecting regions provided at different radii of the bowl, one of which is used to collect a first, lighter, floating solid phase, and the other one is used to collect a second, heavier, sedimenting solid phase, so that the solid-collecting regions can be filled with the relevant solid phase over time while the relevant batch is being processed.
