A sheet of transparent or opaque soft vinyl or plastic is customized for use as a table or tablecloth protector by selecting one of a variety of different size color-coded paper patterns and using the pattern as a template, to cut the protective sheet to the size of the table or tablecloth to be protected. The protective sheet may be flannel backed and/or may have a quilted surface.
