Disclosed are various approaches for providing an in-cage system for sensing animal behaviors. In one example, a lick detection device is provided. The lick detection device includes a frame having at least one bottle orifice and a hanger. The lick detection device further includes a sipper clip connected to the frame by a leg. Finally, the lick detection device includes a conductive strip on an interior surface of the sipper clip.
