The present invention relates to a heat sealable filter material for liquids that is fully compostable. The filter material is a thermoplastic-impregnated cellulosic nonwoven having a Textest Air Permeability of 50 to 1000 L/m2·s. The filter material can be laminated to a support layer without the additional use of an adhesive. Further aspects of the present invention include compostable packaging elements comprising the compostable filter material described herein.
