A quasi-sinusoidal variable capacitor, comprising a stator and a rotor, is disclosed. Its stator and rotor are housed within a vacuum chamber. The stator is fixedly attached to a non-conductive stator mount within the vacuum chamber. The stator includes at least two sub-assemblies of stator pole plates. These stator pole sub-assemblies are electrically isolated from one another, whereas the sub-assemblies' stator plates are in electrical communication with one another. The rotor, through a rotor shaft, is rotatably coupled to the stator mount. The rotor includes a non-conductive rotor mount and conductive rotor segments. The rotor segments are evenly spaced around and fixedly attached to the rotor mount. These rotor segments are electrically isolated from one another. Electrical charge within the stator's capacitance causes electrostatic induction within these rotor segments. Rotation of the rotor varies this electrostatic induction within the rotor segments, establishing a quasi-sinusoidal variance in the stator's capacitance.
