Disclosed are co-solvents as well as methods of using thereof in oil and gas operations. Described herein are also methods of displacing an unrefined petroleum material in contact with a solid material, said method comprising: contacting the unrefined petroleum material with the compound described herein or a composition described herein, wherein the unrefined petroleum material is in contact with the solid material; and allowing the unrefined petroleum material to separate from the solid material, thereby displacing the unrefined petroleum material in contact with the solid material.
