An impact detection system for a vehicle includes an in-vehicle information capture device for vehicle monitoring having at least one sensor to capture input information in relation to at least one measurable parameter relating to the vehicle, and a mobile computing device operating a software application with an impact detection algorithm to detect an impact based on the information sensed by the in-vehicle information capture device and when an impact is detected, to push an electronic notification of the impact detection to a third-party system.
