Each of the plurality of active components can have a function when pressed individually that is not directed toward placement of any call. The communication device can comprise machine instructions that recognize that a user has pressed a predetermined pattern of one or more of the plurality of active components and, responsive to recognizing the predetermined pattern of one or more of the plurality of active components have been pressed, performs a predetermined function.
