Abstract
A method for location scoring a transaction based on item redemption includes: receiving a redemption notification, the notification including an indication of redemption of an item; receiving a transaction message related to a payment transaction, the transaction message being formatted based standards and including a plurality of data elements including a first data element configured to store a geographic location, a second data element configured to store a transaction time, and one or more additional data elements configured to store additional transaction data; determining a location score for the payment transaction based on a correspondence between the geographic location and a location of the redeemed item and a correspondence between the transaction time and a time of the redeemed item; executing a query on the transaction message to insert the determined location score into a data element of the plurality of data elements; and electronically transmitting the transaction message.
