Abstract
A rotary electric machine includes a rotor having a plurality of magnetic poles and a stator having a core and coil, the core including slots and the coil being formed of phase windings of three phases wound in the core. A slot multiple n is set to 2, each windings of the coil being wound as short windings extending over (n+1) adjacent slots. With the axis of rotation of the rotor as center, designating α as the arc ratio of a magnetic pole, β as the circumferential-direction angular range of magnetic flux interchange faces of the rotor, which face the core and at which magnetic flux is interchanged with the core, and designating γ as a slot pitch of the slots in the circumferential direction, relationships β≦2nγ and β<α are established, to efficiently obtain magnetic flux flowing between the stator and the rotor.
