Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide techniques for locating network components in a distributed antenna system. A DAS can include various antennas located within a deployment environment. The DAS may include a centralized hub that may interface with various broadband sources and manage access to the broadband sources for devices that connect to the DAS. In some embodiments, the centralized hub may communicate with one or more remote units that convert signals received from the centralized hub to be communicated using one of the distributed antennas. Components of the DAS may be associated with a beacon. The beacon can be configured to determine that the signal has been lost (e.g., due to component failure) and can begin transmitting an identification signal (e.g., a “ping”). The identification signal transmitted by the beacon may then be used to identify the location of the faulty component for servicing.
