In one aspect, a method includes obtaining one or more search results that a search engine has identified as being responsive to a search query, receiving a term that the user has selected from the search results, receiving user input selecting promotion, demotion, or phrase search criteria for the term, and automatically reformulating the search query based on the term and the promotion, demotion, or phrase search criteria.
